TKs mothers death has changed from the first book of this series.  In the first book TK tells Sarah his mother died 4 years before from cancer.  He talks about how she made him move on from his destructive behavior after his football accident and death of his father.  He made his mothers dumpling recipe for her when he had her to dinner.  Told her his mother said he needed to know how to nourish his body, and he said about how much he missed her.

In Deception in the Hills, he tells her his mother died in childbirth while having him.

Thanks for pointing this out! That's quite an interesting inconsistency, especially considering how detailed TK's memories of his mother were in the first book.

I haven't been able to independently verify both passages, but based on your description, this certainly sounds like a possible continuity error. It would be interesting to know whether other readers have noticed the same thing.

Thanks for sharing your observation!
