About the Book
When a woman’s body is discovered on a frozen logging road in rural Vermont, FBI Special Agent Sean Burke expects another isolated homicide. But the victim’s precisely inflicted wounds suggest something more complicated and sinister: a killer professionally trained in systematic torture, interrogation, and extracting secrets.
The forensic similarities to recent, unsolved murders in New Hampshire draw Burke into a partnership with Special Agent Erin Callahan, an ambitious, by-the-book rising star in the Bureau. With a small, multistate investigative task force at their disposal, Burke and Callahan uncover a chilling lead: The killer may be a Cold War–era defector with ties to a classified CIA program that operates deeper than anyone could have imagined.
Now, in the darkest corners of New England, Burke and Callahan are on the hunt to find a prolific killer before they strike again―and must risk their lives to expose a far-reaching conspiracy before the truth is buried forever.
