Trick or Treat

It starts with a scarecrow. It ends with a body.

There’s me, my husband Jack, and our six-year-old son, Lucas. He’s a bit of a scamp — but I’d do anything for him. We’re back in my hometown of Austin, Texas. A place I left twenty years ago to get away from the terrible mistake I made back then.

It all starts with a scarecrow. A cheap, tacky decoration that somehow ends up in our moving truck — an unwelcome reminder of a time I’ve tried to forget.

Days later, Lucas, comes home from school with a handful of straw, claiming a neighbor gave it to him for good luck. But I’ve never seen this “neighbor”.

Then I open my front door. There’s a scarecrow on the step. Or at least, I thought it was.

A frozen scream wedges in my throat. It’s not a scarecrow. It’s a dead body.

AN EXHILARATING BLEND OF BREATHTAKING SUSPENSE AND NAIL-BITING TENSION WITH A SHOCKING FINAL TWIST.
