A bride vanishes on the morning of her marriage contract. And Elizabeth Bennet cannot believe the story society is so eager to tell.

Netherfield has opened again, and all of Hertfordshire is alive with wedding preparations. Then another bride disappears.

Miss Louisa March is expected downstairs to sign her marriage contract to the polished and prosperous Mr Eversham. Instead, her room is found disturbed, her carriage abandoned near a lonely lane, and her torn veil discovered in the churchyard. A note claims she has fled of her own accord — but Elizabeth has learned to distrust evidence that explains a woman’s guilt too neatly.

As the neighbourhood rushes to call Louisa foolish, romantic, or ruined, Elizabeth and Darcy begin to uncover a colder truth.
