A World Of Trouble

The Jack Shepherd Novels #3 / 6

A World Of Trouble (The Jack Shepherd Novels #3) by Jake Needham
Unrated

Jack Shepherd was sick of Washington politics, sick of corporate law, and even a little sick of himself. He hit the road looking for a new start and now he needs a job. Being a lawyer for Charlie Kitnarock is a job, so he takes it.

Shepherd could certainly have done a lot worse for himself. Charlie Kitnarok is the world's ninety-eighth richest man. He rules an international corporate empire and controls billions in assets. But he's also a former Thai prime minister who's now living in exile in Dubai. When he's not making money, he's plotting his return to political power.

For Shepherd, that could be a problem. Thailand already has a prime minister and she's a woman with whom Shepherd once had a relationship. Well, sort of. It will get particularly messy if, as Shepherd suspects, Charlie is smuggling arms to his supporters and intends to start an uprising to seize control of the country.

Can Shepherd keep his two friends from destroying each other and prevent Thailand from slipping into anarchy? The country is hurtling closer and closer to a bloody civil war and, as unlikely as it may sound, Jack Shepherd might be the only person on earth who can stop it.

Jake Needham

Jake Needham

Once upon a time, I was a screen and television writer, but I started writing crime novels when I realized I really didn't like movies and television all that much.

Since then, I've published twenty crime and mystery novels. I've been nominated for the Barry Award three times, and the International Thriller Writers' Award once. The seventh book in my Inspector Tay series — WHO THE HELL IS HARRY BLACK? — won the Barry Award for Best Paperback Mystery of 2024.

My wife and I live in Bangkok now, and have for over thirty years.

The romantic notion of the American expatriate novelist living an exciting life in some exotic land pretty much disappeared nearly a century ago when Hemingway and Fitzgerald fled Paris, but there are still a few of us out here.

 This is where we live...
