The Twenty

Major Crimes #2 / 5
by Sam Holland
The Twenty (Major Crimes #2) by Sam Holland
Unrated

A tense novel from a fast-rising star, Sam Holland, The Twenty fuses a chilling race-against-time with blood-curdling crime fiction.

When DCI Adam Bishop arrives at the crime scene in the dead of night, the sight of the body is bad enough—but what Adam notices next chills him to his core. More bodies surface. And the spray-painted numbers daubed above the corpses reveal the horrific truth: the killer is counting down. But to what end?

Adam has no idea—until Dr. Romilly Cole knocks on his door with damning evidence pointing to a series of murders fifteen years earlier—a case she knows intimately from her past. Now it's personal—and the next knock on his door could be fatal.

Sam Holland

Sam Holland

Having always been fascinated with the dark and macabre, Sam Holland exploded onto the crime thriller world in 2022 with her debut novel, The Echo Man, shocking and enthralling readers and reviewers alike with its sinister depiction of a serial killer copying notorious real-life murderers of the past. The Twenty followed the year after, garnering reviews such as ‘riveting reading… packed with suspense’ from the Daily Mail and ‘smart and brooding’ from bestselling author, AJ Finn.

Her books have been published in 15 countries worldwide, including the US, Germany and the Netherlands, where she became the first author to win the Bronze Bat for her debut and the Silver Bat for best thriller in consecutive years at the Nederlands Thrillerfestival.

She also writes as Louisa Scarr, and is the author of the Butler and West police crime thrillers, beginning with Last Place You Look and ending with Out of the Ashes. A new series, about a police dog handler, launched in July 2024 with Gallows Wood. Book four in the series, Leicester Square, will be out this October.

Her DS Kate Munro series, Ask Me No Questions and Nowhere to be Found, have been republished by Canelo Crime and are out now.

Her fifth Sam Holland book, The Killer in Room Five, has loose links to the Major Crimes world but works as a stand alone. It is out now.
