Burning SnowA Retelling of The Little Match Girl & The Snow Queen
Princess Safara wanted nothing more than to marry the prince of Averglas and secure protection for her suffering kingdom—until her fiancé left her to freeze to death.
Til death do us part comes early for Safara when a brutal winter sweeps through her betrothed’s kingdom, forcing everyone to evacuate or be buried by the snow. To make things worse, toxic trees have been burned in fireplaces in a desperate attempt to warmth, infecting Safara and many others with a slow-acting paralysis. Abandoned and alone, Safara uses the last flick of her fingers to light a match, wishing for a chance to have been a better queen.
By some miracle, life returns to Safara as she wakes up months in the past. No longer diseased or trapped by snow, she decides to make good on her wish and do everything in her power to be the queen she should have been in the first place—the snow queen. Now knowing what the future holds, she’s not aligning herself with the losing side. The only way to stop this winter is to win over the snow king who created it. Can Safara win over his frozen heart? Or is her life destined to always burn away?

Abigail Manning
Abigail Manning writes fantasy with the comforting warmth of a bedtime story and the sense of wonder that first draws readers into magical worlds. Her novels are filled with enchanted kingdoms, hidden destinies, courageous heroines, and romances that unfold amid adventure, creating stories that feel inspired by the fairy tales many readers grew up loving while still offering surprises of their own.
Rather than treating classic folklore as something fixed and untouchable, she approaches it as a living tradition. Familiar legends become starting points rather than boundaries. A tale that once seemed complete may reveal an entirely different perspective, a forgotten character, or a new path through a magical realm. This creative curiosity has become one of the defining qualities of her work, allowing her to craft fantasy romances that feel both recognizable and refreshingly original.

Reviews and Comments
I LOVED this fairy tale mash up of The Little Match Girl & The Snow Queen and how well it blended the two stories together! I haven't really read much about The Little Match Girl before but this was an excellent retelling as far as I am concerned and I thought Princess Safara used the matches well. Cassian made an excellent Snow King in this story and him and Safara's relationship was fun to see unfold. Safara's pet rock Douglas was also a fun little addition at times. The epilogue at the end was so sweet and I was happy with how everything came together for them. I look forward to reading more of Abigail Manning's Retellings in the future.
