Iris and her family are the descendants of the original Twelve Dancing Princesses of Fairy Tale fame. However, the story we know isn't the entire story, nor is it entirely the truth. In fact, once every generation Iris's family is compelled to re-enact the tale and descend to Faerie to dance with the twelve cursed princes. Iris thought she had escaped the family geas, but once she is Chosen, she is determined that her generation will be final generation of Dancers, no matter what it takes to break the curse.
