Three years ago, when massive earthquakes shook the world in the Big Rift, nineteen-year-old Liv Anders lost everything — her family, her home, her entire village. Everything except her twin sister Rose, who’s missing under mysterious circumstances.

In search of Rose, Liv has followed her only lead to the big city Caer-Lunden, but now she's losing hope. With no more clues to Rose’s whereabouts than she had three years ago, Liv is running out of coin and has to resort to stealing to make her meagre wages last the month.

Then one day, a stranger invites Liv to the fanciest restaurant in town. Wary but at the same time intrigued, she reluctantly agrees, hoping that he may have information about Rose…

… But what follows is a chaotic evening that sends Liv down a trajectory of lies, illusions and betrayals. To her horror, Liv discovers that dark forces are at play, threatening her very life, and the lives of those around her.
