Paladin Micestes has spent years faithfully serving his god Fortissimus. When a vision calls him to the frigid northlands of Druun, he embarks on a holy quest to rid the land of the witch plaguing it.
Micestes confronts the dark witch Kroviah in her lair, but is undone by her sinister magic. As death claims him, he summons his last reserves of strength to free a mysterious girl held captive.
But true death is denied him. Reborn, he awakens changed - enhanced in ways beyond mortal-kind. His senses are sharp, his body strong. Yet he feels something stirring within, an empty craving that gnaws at his soul.
Plagued by dreams of violence and madness, Micestes struggles to contain this new, vampiric nature taking root. But he remains determined to complete the mission given by his god, no matter the personal cost.
Tracking the witch who cursed him to this half-life, Micestes journeys into the ruins of a lost city, where ancient forces stir in wait. There, in the shadows of Azantlan, he will learn secrets that could shatter his tenuous hold on humanity forever.
All that stands between the dark and the light is a river of blood.
