It’s the week before Halloween and someone has kidnapped a wealthy family’s son and murdered his nanny.

When no ransom call is forthcoming Charli Cross and her partner begin to suspect that money may not be the driving factor behind the crimes. Their suspicions are soon confirmed when a destitute single mom with no connection to the other family is killed and her youngest daughter kidnapped.
