Phoebe Fry has always been lucky, whether it’s finding money on the sidewalk, getting upgraded on a flight, or narrowly avoiding a collision on the highway. But there’s something otherworldly about just how often it occurs for her.

Now, at twenty-six, Phoebe is a private investigator. She uses her uncanny good fortune to solve cold cases, which is how she comes to arrive in a small Missouri town that’s not even a spot on the map.

In the summer of 1992, a family of three vanished from their home. Their cars were parked outside and all their belongings untouched. With a lack of evidence, no verifiable sign of foul play, and no suspects, the surviving family members are desperate for answers. They use the last of their money to hire Phoebe and another infamous P.I., a man with brooding eyes and a deeply-rooted distrust of Phoebe’s strange knack for uncovering secrets.

But she’s going to need every bit of luck at her disposal, especially since killers don’t like being found…
