YOUNG OUTCAST FACES HURRICANE … DESPISED FEDERATION SEEKS TO CAPTURE HER FOR DNA... REGINA FIGHTS TO STAY ALIVE AND FREE.

“If you like post-apocalyptic novels about survival, this is definitely the book for you.” – Tori Schultz, Litpick

A gray patrol boat crosses Regina Shen’s path. They’re coming for her.

As an outcast, Regina is forced to fend for herself and her younger sister in a world that bans books. An approaching storm could be the least of her problems.

Perfect for fans of the Hunger Games, Divergent, and Maze Runner. Regina Shen: Resilience is the first book in a science fiction thriller series with an ordinary yet strong young woman facing extraordinary hurdles with tenacity.

The World Federation condemns Regina, her mom, and sister to live on the seaward side of barrier walls. Those walls were built to hold back rising seas caused by abrupt climate change and as a place to dump outcasts. Regina survives by her wits on swampy islands and thrives on salvage from sunken cities, including illegal print books, which she commits to memory.

Three-hundred-plus-year-old Grand Old Dames rule the Federation using a rigid caste system and the notorious Department of Antiquities. They’ve kept peace and order by destroying all evidence from before the Great Collapse. Now world fertility is plunging. Chief Inspector Joanne Demarco pursues Regina for unique DNA that could prevent human extinction and boost the inspector’s power. It's too bad Regina doesn't trust her enough to barter fairly, let alone with her life.

A hurricane threatens to destroy Regina’s world, tearing her from family and home. With Demarco and bounty hunters in hot pursuit, Regina risks her life to try to rescue her sister. Faced with dying in the storm or from starvation, she is tempted to surrender to Demarco’s offer of refuge and food. However, that means becoming a slave or worse, a guinea pig in a Federation lab. Then no one will stand up for her sister.

Can Regina survive the hurricane, stop Demarco, and help her sister?

Lance Erlick

Lance Erlick writes science fiction thrillers for adult and young adult readers that often include strong female protagonists. He hopes readers will enjoy his writing as they follow these people overcoming hurdles for those they love.

Lance has traveled through many worlds, without leaving Earth, yet can imagine other fascinating realms. His writing has been inspired by the strong, clever, and resilient women he has encountered along his journey.

He was raised by a roaming aerospace engineer, growing up in various parts of the United States and Europe, as well as traveling through Asia. He took to stories as his anchor, including the works of Asimov, Bradbury, and Heinlein, and has been writing since age eleven. Growing up, he was inspired by his father’s engineering work on cutting-edge aerospace projects to look to the future.

In an ideal world, Lance would find time loops where he could step out for a week at a time to read and write. Then he would return to the moment he left, without life getting in the way. Of course, since everyone would have the same ability, life would still sneak in.

He believes in robots, artificial intelligence, space ships to the stars, and time travel, as long as these tools don’t fall into the wrong hands. Since they undoubtedly will, he believes in the triumph of the human spirit over evil. After all, this is the only multiverse we have.

He is the author of the Rebel series in which he explores the consequences of Annabelle Scott following her conscience after she’s drafted into the military to enforce laws she believes are wrong. He authored the Regina Shen series, which takes place after abrupt climate change leads to the Great Collapse and a new society under the World Federation. Here, Regina Shen is an outcast struggling to survive and remain free. In 2017, he released Xenogeneic: First Contact about encounters with alien pilgrims aiming to take over Earth and Elena Pyetrov’s struggle to stay alive and prevent the alien takeover. 2018 brings the release of Reborn, the first novel in the Android Chronicles series.
