The Sundered World

Author's note:

This book, published as long ago as 1999, was the launching platform for the "Three Powers" series of fantasy novels, which are in process of publication. In other words it has been superseded by the following epic fantasy series. It may be of interest in a historical context of my entering the world of epic fantasy but as author I recovered the rights and stopped sales, even though it had already sold more than 11,000 copies.

The Sundered World features Alan Duval as an adult returning to the world he first entered as a teenager. Hence there are commonalities. I would recommend that readers new to my fantasy fiction read the Three Powers series. But there are major differences with The Sundered World, which would read as a separate story in many ways. I received grumbles from readers who wanted to know what happened to Kate, after the end of The Sundered World. In a sense, though there are major changes, you discover a lot more about Kate in the Three Powers second book, The Tower of Bones.

Here is the jacket cover description of The Sundered World from 1999...

In the violent streets of a despoiled London, Alan Duval is wounded by the poisoned blade of a ceremonial dagger. His life is saved by a mysterious feral girl. Then, suddenly, bewilderingly, he is transported from Earth to a mirror world – Tír – in which he encounters a darkly comic creature, Granny Dhhu. Treating his wounds, she confers on him the Oraculum of the Trídédana, the gateway to immense power and the first step in a seemingly impossible quest. The spiritual continent of Monisle has been at war for a thousand years with the forces of darkness. Duval’s purpose is to defeat the Tyrant of the Wastelands. The survival of Earth as much as war-ravaged Tír depends on his success...
