It has been two years since Mariah O’Rourke’s sister Madeline was killed by a psychopath in Black Paw, Montana. Despite the murderer’s death, Mariah thinks there’s more to the story regarding the involvement of his brother, Gabe Ford. The traumatic experience of losing her sister, and the doubt she has over the finality of the case, has inspired Mariah to become a cop.

Black Paw police officer, River Ross, is a man with something to prove. Since joining the force, River has been responsible for several serious screw-ups. When the disgraced former Mayor, Marty Ford, negotiates an early release for his son, Gabe, the town of Black Paw is outraged. River sees the injustice of Gabe’s reduced sentence as a chance to prove himself worthy of the office he serves. When Mariah O’Rourke comes to town trying to reopen the case of her sister’s death, River is faced with the decision of following the rules of Wolfen law or seeking vigilante justice with a woman who consumes his thoughts.
