A novella.

In 2009, the population of the world reached an umanageable 12 billion. Something had to be done, something drastic. The government created Hiatus, a system in which half the population sleeps for a month while the rest go about their lives. On the final day of the month, there is a switchover. The system works; successful, in part, due to the strict policing by the Sandmen - soldiers tasked with hunting and destroying absconders.

The year is 2029. Sisters Gia and Rae, who haven't seen each other since they were children, are about to test the system. Wilhelm, a mysterious dwarf, claims to be able to help, to lead them to the only safe place - The Darklands. It's the only chance they have of escaping Hiatus for good and being together at last.

Separate they were weak...Together they are unstoppable.

Adam Millard

Adam Millard is the author of thirteen novels and more than a hundred short stories, which can be found in various collections and anthologies. Probably best known for his post-apocalyptic fiction, Adam also writes fantasy/horror for children. Adam also writes Bizarro fiction for several publishers, who enjoy his tales of flesh-eating clown-beetles and rabies-infected derrieres so much that they keep printing them. His "Dead" series has recently been the filling in a Stephen King/Bram Stoker sandwich on Amazon’s bestsellers…
