Guardians of the Lost

Many years have passed since Price Dagnarus and Gareth unleashed the terrifying power of the Void magic upon Vinnengael, laying waste to the human kingdom. With the once-proud realm shattered and in ruins, much of its history would have been forgotten but for the Monks of the Five Dragons, who for generations have recorded the events of that time upon their bodies. And it is upon the mummified remains of one such monk that the human Dominion Lord, Gustav, finally achieves his lifelong quest and learns the location of the lost portion of the Sovereign Stone. This legendary artefact is the only thing that can stand against the dark power of Dagnarus.

But this discovery is not without its price. Dagnarus has also been searching for the four parts of the Stone and Gustav must do battle for it with one of Dagnarus’s fearsome, otherworldly servants. Witness to this encounter is Bashae, a young man from a nearby village, and the dwarf, Wolfram. Gustav emerges victorious but mortally wounded, and entrusts the stone to Bashae, without revealing its significance.

Bashae must make the long and dangerous journey to the Elven lands and deliver the jewel to a trusted friend of Gustav’s who will ensure it reaches the altar built for it in New Vinnengael. At all costs, the Stone must stay out of Dagnarus’s hands but Bashae and his companions are soon fighting off the monstrous servants of the Prince as he unleashes a diabolical war, hoping to seize the Stone in the conflict.

In a brilliantly inventive tale of perilous quests, dauntless courage and dark magic, bestselling Dragonlance authors Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman reach new storytelling heights with this heart-stopping continuation to the Sovereign Stone trilogy.
