Jessica Townsend’s journey into the world of storytelling began long before her debut novel ever hit the shelves. Growing up on the sun-drenched coast of Queensland, Australia, she was captivated by the worlds hidden between the pages of books. Her passion for storytelling began at a young age, writing her first story at seven and seeing it published in a local library newsletter. Little did she know, this early spark of creativity would lead to the creation of one of the most enchanting and beloved fantasy series of recent years.

Known for Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, the first book in the Nevermoor series, Jessica has a gift for blending dark magic, intricate world-building, and characters that leap off the page. Her books have captivated readers young and old, earning accolades such as the Book of the Year Award at the Australian Book Industry Awards and the prestigious Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. The series, with its blend of whimsy and mystery, has been heralded for its vivid imagination, earning comparisons to the works of J.K. Rowling while carving out its own unique identity.

Before becoming a full-time author, Jessica worked as a copywriter and editor, including a role at Crikey!, a children’s wildlife magazine for Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. Her career also saw her living in London for several years, and those experiences have informed her writing with a sense of global adventure and subtle cultural nuances that enrich her stories.

Drawing inspiration from classics like Little Women, His Dark Materials, and even films such as Willow and Return to Oz, Jessica’s writing reflects a deep love for fantastical tales that blend hope and mystery, magic and danger.
