Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer #1) by Robin Hobb
Assassin's Apprentice
(The Farseer #1)
by Robin Hobb
1995 | Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

Assassin's Apprentice is the first book of The Farseer Trilogy, which is one of the best fantasy series ever written. Assassin's Apprentice is a touching, sinister and entertaining story about a young royal bastard who is trained to be an assassin. The story is unique and the characters are memorable. I must say that I love this book (and the other books in this series) very much.

A friend of mine recommended Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart for me last year. She said that it was a good and different kind of fantasy book. When I finished reading it, I agreed with her. The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkien
The Silmarillion
by J. R. R. Tolkien
1977 | Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, Middle-earth, Locus Award, High Fantasy
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

The Silmarillion is a classic fantasy book. It's the "Bible of Middle-earth". This book tells how Middle-earth was created and what happened during the ancient times. One of the most beautiful and tragic stories in The Silmarillion is the love story of Beren and Luthien, a man and an elf maiden. It's an unforgettable story about love and sacrifice. I love this book and I've read it many times. If I could give 10 stars, I would do so, because this book is simply great. :) It's much better than The Lord of the Rings.

I found this book series by accident, when I began to search for good fantasy books. I had to buy the whole series, because I liked what I read about it. The Baker's Boy is an entertaining fantasy book. I enjoyed reading it. If you like Lynn Flewelling, Melanie Rawn and Robin Hobb, you'll probably enjoy this book.

As everybody probably knows, Megan Lindholm is Robin Hobb. When she writers as Megan Lindholm, her style is a bit different, but the books are good. I read this first book of the Ki and Vandien series last year, when I bought the whole series. I loved Harpy's Flight. It's a great book. I highly recommend it to everybody, who likes Robin Hobb.

The Golden Key is an interesting collaboration. Melanie Rawn, Jennifer Roberson and Kate Elliott have managed to create an interesting and original book. Not Before Sundown by Johanna Sinisalo
Not Before Sundown
by Johanna Sinisalo
2003 | Fantasy, Science Fiction, Translation, Urban Fantasy, Alternate History
★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8 / 10

I decided to give Not Before Sundown another try a couple of days ago. I previously read it in Finnish and in English. This time I read it in English. When I read this book for the first time, I didn't like it very much, because it felt like I had read better stories. Now that I read it again, I must admit that it has gradually grown on me and I've begun to like it. I guess that this is one of those books that must be read with time and patience to fully appreciate its charm. The story is original and it's clearly meant to be read by adults, who want to think about things. This is not an easy fantasy book and it must not be read in haste - it must be read with enough time or you won't like it. I must say that I'm glad that I decided to give this book another try and didn't let my earlier opinions affect me. I read it with an open mind and without prejudices. This time it opened to me in a whole new way and it felt like there was depth to the story. Not Before Sundown is an interesting book and it can be recommended to fantasy fans, who want to read something different and want to be challenged by what they have read. I recommend this book especially to adult readers, because this book contains many elements, which can only be appreciated by adults.

Traitor's Moon (Nightrunner #3) by Lynn Flewelling
Traitor's Moon
(Nightrunner #3)
by Lynn Flewelling
1999 | Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

This book is a bit different from the previous books, but it's just as good as them. This book contains more politics and political intrigue, but there are also sexual situations and magic. Lynn Flewelling's storytelling is amazingly fluent and fascinating. The story is interesting and the reader will find out more about certain things than before. This brings more depth to the series. Traitor's Moon is a fascinating and well written fantasy book for adults. I highly recommend it to everybody who wants to read a good and entertaining fantasy book.

Stalking Darkness (Nightrunner #2) by Lynn Flewelling
Stalking Darkness
(Nightrunner #2)
by Lynn Flewelling
1997 | Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

When I finished reading Luck in the Shadows I immediately began to read Stalking Darkness. The first book was excellent and I hoped that the second book would be good too. I wasn't disappointed, because Stalking Darkness was much better and more macabre than Luck in the Shadows. I liked this book very much. Lynn Flewelling handles difficult things surprisingly well and she's not afraid to write about sexuality. I was impressed by the way she wrote about certain things. If you're a fan of good and entertaining adult fantasy, you should definitely read Stalking Darkness, because this book is worth reading.

Luck in the Shadows (Nightrunner #1) by Lynn Flewelling
Luck in the Shadows
(Nightrunner #1)
by Lynn Flewelling
1996 | Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, High Fantasy
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

Luck in the Shadows is the first book of the Nightrunner series, which has become one of my favourite fantasy series. It's one of those series which grow on you. This book is a real gem among other fantasy books. It's entertaining, funny, sinister and original. The story moves fast forward and the reader will gradually find out more about the characters and the world where they live. The main characters are interesting and the reader will soon notice that there are certain secrets which will be revealed later (some of the secrets will be revealed in later books). I won't say anything about the story or the happenings, but I'll say this: the story is very entertaining and well written. Luck in the Shadows is one of those books, which will charm you when you read it. I can highly recommend this book to all fantasy fans, who like good stories, because Lynn Flewelling is a good writer.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley
Sunshine
by Robin McKinley
2003 | Fantasy, Mythopoeic Awards
★★★★★★★★☆☆ 8 / 10

You can't help liking Sunshine. Even if her thoughts are sometimes a real info dump, this is a book you want to finish quickly. Secondary characters are fun too, and having a librarian in the crowd is a big plus. I would like to hear more about what happens / has happened, hope this won't be the only novel set to this world but she'll write more of Sunshine and her friends.

The Year of Our War (Castle Series #1) by Steph Swainston
The Year of Our War
(Castle Series #1)
by Steph Swainston
2004 | Fantasy, New Weird
★★★★★★★★★★ 10 / 10

Jant is one of the best characters ever. Right in the same league with Robin Hobb's Fitz and Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan. He is so real with his flaws that you can't help liking him. And the rest of the book - oh, it's good too. Recommended.
