Alien
Alien is a tag for books set in the universe of the eponymous science fiction horror film created by screenwriters Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett in 1979 which itself has spawned a number of sequels and prequels.
The plot usually revolves around encounters between humans and an extraterrestrial endoparasite, referred to as a Xenomorph, set in a future where humans have travelled to distant stars through the use of suspended animation technology.
The Xenomorph is described as the perfect killing machine concerned only with the survival of it’s kind that necessitates the insemination and predation of any other species it encounters.
Lurking in the background of these stories is the shadowy Wayland-Yutani Corporation a ruthless organisation prepared to sacrifice entire planets to obtain a sample of the Xenomorph although its motives remain opaque.
The early books were adaptations of the original films but the plot lines have since been expanded to include other scenarios including encounters with the Predator species which actively hunts the Xenomorph and the enigmatic Engineers that may be the creators of humanity.
