King Breaker

BOOK REVIEW

King Breaker

Rowena Cory Daniells

9/10Written Oct 17, 2013

Being conclusion to the King Rolen's Kin King Breaker leaves couple of main questions unanswered, which is annoying, but still is one the best books I've read this year, thus the last half star ;)

The story arc of Byren was somewhat stunning, not exactly what I was hoping or expecting for. Piro's story had been one of my favorite during the series and thus I was little bit disapointed that her story arc didn't actually come to any deasent conclusion but more likely being at turnaround this point, it felt like half of her story was left untold. Last of the kin's were Fyn and he at least got a fitting end for all his troubles.

Despite of it's flaws, King Rolen's King -series kept me in it's hold with interesting story and captive twists in the plot. I wish I could spend just one more book with the kin to get the final answers it was lacking for...

Vampire Hunter D 7

BOOK REVIEW

Vampire Hunter D 7

Hideyuki Kikuchi, Saiko Takaki

8/10Written Sep 27, 2013

I am not huge fan of Manga etc. genre, but I just love the art of Saiko Takaki in Vampire Hunter D, they seem to fit perfectly to the world that Kikuchi has created for his antihero D.
It was D that first introduced me to the world of manga - and it is only D that still manages to raise my interest towards the genre...

Scent of Magic

BOOK REVIEW

Scent of Magic

Maria V. Snyder

4/10Written Sep 21, 2013

As a sequel to Touch of Magic, Scent of Magic was a real disapointing. It lacked the grip and paste the ToM had. Around middle of the book I had to take a pause and read couple of other novels before I could regain my focus to this. Character of Avry that I liked in ToM grew annoying the further the story got.
Plus Snyder seems to have very unfortunate habbit in literature that has a war going on; she seems unable to kill any of the characters that matters to you. Not that I endure death, but the times these "dead" keep coming back in the series is getting ridiculous. Yeah, sure it would be great if you could get out of slahing/poisoning/stabbing -fight of the powerhungry with just a scratch on your knee, but everybody knows war just doesn't work that way. It's not realistic.

Lacking the grip the book would have worked if it had been half shorter, but with it's 400 pages it get's occationally very dull to read. Shame really.

Twin-Shadowed Knight

BOOK REVIEW

Twin-Shadowed Knight

Hideyuki Kikuchi

9/10Written Aug 27, 2013

So far in the series D hasn't been the most talkative (anti)hero character, so it's quite odd, yet refreshing that his "other half" turns out to be slightly more talkative thus making D more talkative than usual too.
Story take's us closer to D's origin, giving some answers and, of course, bringing out new ones about his history as D, his ever-wicked left hand and "fake D" travel to solve the riddles of hidden place called Muma.

The Pirate's Wish

BOOK REVIEW

The Pirate's Wish

Cassandra Rose Clarke

8/10Written Aug 25, 2013

Second part of the Assassin's Curse sweeps through all of the three impossible tasks which can break Naji's curse.
As series is said to be duology, the ending surprices slightly by leaving s bittersweet taste to readers mouth since Clarke has used more that one clishé in this story and you are prepared to get some in the end too - and that's when you get a bucket of seawater - warm but salty - to your face.

But at least is leaves open possibilities for continuum.

Final pages seems to be written in a bit of a rush, but if the clishés and predictability didn't stop you reading the first part, you'll find Pirate's Wish even more addictive.

War of the Twins

BOOK REVIEW

War of the Twins

Tracy Hickman, Margaret Weis

8/10Written Aug 23, 2013

War of the Twins show's the worst sides of Raistlin and yet I never seem to be able to hate him for his actions. I don't think anyone familiar with the twins could.
You watch in sadness as he sacrifices anything for his one true love...and you understand him.

The Assassin's Curse

BOOK REVIEW

The Assassin's Curse

Cassandra Rose Clarke

7/10Written Jul 26, 2013

Assassin's Curse is bit clischéis tale of two people, female runaway bride pirate and scarred assassin, but the story is captive in it's simplicity as the two reluctant companions travel together to find the cure for the curse she accindently lands on the assassin by saving his life when he was supposed to kill her instead.

Swashbuckling, magic and romance ahead, ohoy! ;)

Moon Over Soho

BOOK REVIEW

Moon Over Soho

Ben Aaronovitch

8/10Written Oct 24, 2012

"Jazz vampire" killer, little magic and sarcastic humour in this second book of Peter Grant series.
Can't go wrong with that! =)
