The Rake

I’m a dingle-dangle…

The thing had no business being there.

Standing alone in a field outside Montgomery, it looks wrong even from a distance.

Then two birdwatchers see the face.

Local CID are already looking for a missing man. Now his body has been found and it is not a pretty sight.

With DCI Evan Warlow caught in the bureaucratic fallout from an earlier case, DI Jess Allanby takes charge of the preliminary investigation.

But the dead man appears to have had few enemies. His family relationships were strained and his work brought its share of grief, but nothing explains what’s been inflicted upon him.

Then another man disappears.

As Jess leads the hunt, Warlow and the team search for the thread connecting two apparently ordinary men—and uncover a monstrous logic that may already have selected its next victim.
